This is a beautiful example of a rare Diakon material pre war 1930s telephone. Diakon is a trade name of the early Acrylic material and is not as stable as the later 1940s-50s models. It is rare to find very good examples from this period and as you can see this one is lovely. Coloured telephones from this date were fitted with GPO crested drawers and are rarely still with them. It has been totally stripped down and rebuilt after each part has been cleaned and polished. This telephone has a GPO No10 dial with alpha numeric dial face. It is fitted with a very best all British manufactured hand plaited braided handset cord and a GPO specification round plastic ivory 3 meter line in cord with a UK telephone plug socket. I have also fitted an electronic microphone to bring the sound quality up to modern standards. This model was designed to be fitted to a GPO No 26 bell set and so had no internal bell. I have fitted a small bell inside that gives a very pleasant ring but not very loud. Ideal for a bedroom or in a sitting room. The handset is marked 1936 and the base 1938. I can make a dial label with your information at no extra charge.
