A lovely early GPO 200 series telephone. Made from Diakon material and so the plastic has some swirling and slight imperfections.

This is a lovely telephone manufactured in 1938 and is a crossover model between the GPO 162 and the GPO 232. The base and the T bar is made from the thermo setting material Urea Formaldehyde and an early Acrylic thermo plastic material trade name Diakon. The cradle has been replaced and is a very good match. This is a great opportunity to buy a nice example of an ivory GPO 162 without the later drawer base. As you can see it looks very elegant and screams Deco 1930s. This telephone has been totally stripped down and re built after each part has been cleaned and polished. I have retained the original GPO braided handset cord in very good used condition and a rare item to still have. It has been fitted with a GPO specification round plastic line in cord with a UK telephone plug socket. I have fitted it with a small internal bell using a special mounting bracket to prevent any damage. It has a GPO No10 stainless steel fronted No10 alpha numeric dial dated 1936. The base is dated 1937 and the handset 1938. It has a proper GPO 232 internals to allow conversion to a very good sound quality for both incoming and outgoing calls. The plastic is Diakon as stated above and has some swirling patination which actually looks great. I have discounted this quite heavily and so if you like your 1930s items to look a little aged then this one is great. It is quite rare to find such pleasant patination as this. I can make a dial label with your information at no extra charge.
