One of the latest Bakelite telephones Circa early 1960s.

This is a beautiful example of a GEC 1000 Series telephone in black Bakelite.  This would probably date from the early 1960s and as you can see is very much in the design of the new plastic age with rounded edges and a pleasing well thought out design. This one originally had a call exchange button which has now been blanked off. This was the last blast of Bakelite at a time when plastic was already in use more commonly. It has a beautiful loud ring with a good solid double gong bell mechanism. This one retains its original round braided handset cord which was a distinctive feature of GEC telephones. This cord has a few usage marks but still very good. This was not used by the GPO but was very widely used by private business and as you can see was very stylish and robust for the work place. I have fitted it with an electronic microphone and fitted it with a GPO No 21 dial from the period. It is in great condition and is fully working to both dial out and receive perfectly.  This is very good value and because it is not GPO is very reasonably priced.

I can make a dial label with your information at no extra cost.
